Buffering and Packet Loss in the DQDB to ATM Interworking Unit

چکیده

This paper describes methods for reducing the connectionless packet loss rate in the DQDB to ATM Interworking Unit (IWU). Results from simulation studies are presented to show the relationship between the buffering available in the IWU and the reduction in cell and packet loss probabilities. Further performance studies compare the performance of the Lost Packet Screening scheme, the Pushout Buffering scheme and the Datagram Acceptance Control scheme for further reducing the packet loss rate. It is shown that the packet loss rate can be reduced by one order of magnitude. The implementational complexity of the three approaches is also discussed.

ATM traffic transfer via queued-arbitrated DQDB

The easy and cost effective interworking of Distributed Queue Dual Bus (DQDB) and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) protocols is of prime importance for the evolution of the broadband integrated services digital network (B-ISDN) and the long-term success of MANs as tributary networks. In this paper, we study several practically useful scenarios for the interworking of ATM Customer Premises Netwo...

Shaper Dimensioning for MAN to ATM based WAN

This paper considers the dimensioning of the traffic shaping buffer in an Interworking Unit used to interconnect DQDB based MANs over a broadband ATM network. The first part of the paper presents an exact solution for the cell loss probability in the shaper, using an (M/D/1)/D/1/K queueing model. The second part of the paper examines the suitability of such Poissonian arrival assumptions, first...

M1, M2, ..., Mk/G1, G2,..., Gk/l/N Queue with Buffer Division and Push-Out Schemes for ATM Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this paper, loss probabilities and steady state probabilities of data packets for an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network are investigated under the buffer division and push-out schemes. Data packets are classified in classes k which arrive in Poisson fashion to the service facility and are served with general service rate under buffer division scheme, finite buffer space N is divided in...

Performance analysis of ATM/DQDB interworking

This paper considers the cell loss ratio and cell delay variation of a DQDB network, receiving t raf ic from a number of A T M connections. Every connection carries either connection oriented or connectionless traffic. In the analysis of the access t o the bus, we realize that consecutive service t imes of the local access queue are correlated. We present two models, of which one is including t...

The Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks

Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...
